The ZeRow House, Rice University’s entry into the 2009 Solar Decathlon, is now residing next to previous Rice Building Workshop projects in Houston’s Third Ward. The project recently placed 8th in the global competition and was highlighted in a recent AIA article as being the most affordable of all the entries. This characteristic carries great weight when often the idea of a green building includes an increase in cost. Rice has shown that going green shouldn’t cost a lot of green. Nonya Grenader says that putting the house to use in Houston will give the RBW a great opportunity to study how well the sustainable aspects of the project perform.
