Reverse Lens Macro Photography

I don’t have a lot of money and can’t afford to purchase a macro lens.
However, I read up on a technique that can only be known as “Reverse Lens Macro”. Literally a “poor man’s macro lens”, one could not be anymore skeptical about this method of shooting. The technique, as you may or may not have guessed, involves detaching and manually mounting your lens in reverse. I decided to give it a try and immediately, the concept became more incredulous as I could not make out any image through the view finder.
After about 20 minutes of trying to figure out what to do, the solution came down to simply just bringing the camera closer to the object…very close. With a little tweaking of the lighting levels and a very steady hand, the results allowed me to see objects in a completely new perspective. I even attempted to increase the magnification by attaching a reversed zoom lens to a properly mounted prime lens…and yes, it works.
Of course, this is definitely not a replacement for the real deal. Image quality can get shaky if you’re not careful and the depth of field (area of focus) is very shallow. However, after all is said and done, this does give you a much cheaper alternative to the experience of macro photography.
