As a Louisiana native, I haven’t missed a New Orleans Mardi Gras in 16 years, so of course I had to go this year. I ride in the newest all women’s krewe, The Mystic Krewe of Nyx, which is named after the Greek goddess of night. My krewe rides on the Wednesday night before Mardi Gras and we hold a pre-parade party with a headdress competition during the day. My float this year was Beverly Hills Chihuahua. My hubby also rides in the New Orleans Super Krewe, Endymion, on Saturday night. We went to the Endymion Extravaganza held in the Super Dome, where this year, his krewe made history unveiling the largest float to ever ride in Mardi Gras with 9 sections that ride tandem representing New Orleans’ old Pontchartrain Beach. Lastly, what Mardi Gras wouldn’t be complete without spending Mardi Gras day in the French Quarter? The locals come in costume and create marching parades consisting of complete randomness.
