While walking around Martinez last week, I spotted an area that seems to be a magnet for local graffiti artists. The almost entirely-walled group of city blocks contains many upscale residences in this locality just a few miles north of Buenos Aires. As Alvear street slopes down toward the river, one can see hundreds of these paintings on the retaining walls. Veering north along the railroad tracks and later going back up along what used to be a great little sloping park called Paseo del Aguila, many street artist have turned these walls into canvases on which they can express their ideas through an art language that seems to have no boundaries in BA. The dilapidated Paseo del Aguila park used to be a great spot, and is still home to a monument dedicated in 1910, to commemorate the Centennial celebration of Argentine Independence.
